Research Theme
"SMARIN" stands for the Sustainable Materials and Resilient Infrastructure.
Our current research at University of Miami encompasses the following interconnected areas:
- Construction of resilient communities and rehabilitation of built environments: e.g., multifunctional coatings and admixtures, recycling and upcycling of byproducts and wastes, and novel use of biochar and other carbon materials;
- Nanotechnology, molecular science, and electrochemical engineering for urban living, energy innovations and circular economy;
- Multi-scale engineering and characterization, corrosion protection, preservation & rehabilitation, self-healing concrete, coatings, and functional layers for smart cities
